Repetitive Strain Injuries

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is an injury to musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Repetitive Strain Injury is also known as:
  • repetitive stress injury
  • regional musculoskeletal disorder 
  • repetitive motion injuries 
  • overuse syndrome 
  • repetitive motion disorder (RMD)
  • occupational overuse syndrome 
  • cumulative trauma disorder (CT)

The following are believed to cause RSI:
  • repetitive tasks
  • sustained or awkward positions 
  • vibrations 
  • forceful exertions 
  • pressing against hard surfaces
Those with Repetitive Strain Injuries may experience:
  • Short bursts of excruciating pain in the back, shoulders, arms, thumbs, wrists and hands.
  • A worsening of pain with activity
  • A lack of endurance and/or weakness
