Pediatric Cranio-Sacral
Pediatric Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a light contact modality focused on responding to the palpable rhythm and movement of cerebral spinal fluid within the spinal cord and brain of babies and children. With a skilled touch and respectful presence, a therapistcan assist with the release of lesions which may begin as early as in utero, and other patterns created during the birthing process or postnatally. Early Cranio-sacral work can be a great resource in treating birth trauma as well as preventing behavioral and personality problems.
Most people know and recognize the importance that the early years in a child's life play in setting a foundation for the rest of their lives. But, many do not realize the significant impact that a child can experience while in the womb, during the birthing process and during the first several years of their life. Certain traumas, difficulties and chemical and surgical influences can greatly impact the future life of a child.
Pediatric Cranio-sacral therapy has been proven to be very helpful in assisting children to cope with these early traumas; encouraging the body to heal and helping the child realize their human potential and find an improved inner-balance.
What conditions is Pediatric Cranio-Sacral Therapy good for?
The physical and emotional consequences of a child's earliest years often appear in diverse ways. These may include:
- colic

- chronic pain
- mobility concerns
Pediatric Cranio-Sacral Therapy is also good for the following:
- genetic disorders
- autism

What is a Pediatric Cranio-Sacral Therapy session like?
First and foremost, PCST is a very gentle, non-invasive treatment that seeks to assess the needs of the body and then try to correct and prevent whatever issues may be discovered.
Children or babies rest fully-clothed on a comfortable massage table or on the Practitioner or parent's lap. The Practitioner gently touches the child's body to become in-tuned with it's natural craniosacral rhythm. Gentle manipulative techniques are used to work on any areas of pain or dysfunction. A treatment may cause a child to express an emotion or cry, but PCST is not painful; pressure almost never exceeds the weight of a nickle (about 5 grams). Most children feel very relaxed during the session and often times sleep for longer sessions post-treatment. During the session, the Practitioner is always in tune with the needs of the individual child; making adjustments to fit their needs and attention span. Because of this, treatment times may vary. Our Practitioner devotes time to truly understanding you, your child and their needs and takes the time necessary to address their issues.
Our licensed and certified Practitioner realizes that there is no more difficult journey in life than the one that brings us into it. The birthing process and formative years of a child's life can have a large impact on the future of a child, including disorders, conditions, problems and issues that may arise. Pediatric Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a great, gentle way to address these issues early in the child's life to encourage healing both physically and emotionally.
Our Practitioner goes beyond the treatment itself and provides additional services to assist you and your child. Supporting and complimenting Pediatric bodywork, counseling services will be provided as well as education for both parents and children in basic massage techniques, mindfulness and meditation, and the transformative power of the awareness of breathing. These services, along with bodywork, are a structure of gentle learning to calm the mind, bring about clarity of thought, assist children and emotions, connect children with family, friends and life's beauty and wonder.
Visceral manipulation
Visceral manipulation is bodywork done with an energetic touch working both the front and back sides of the body. All of the systems of the body are able to be treated influencing changes from the spine into the cranium. Visceral work when combined with the Cranio-Sacral modality has a proven affect on past and present head trauma, headaches and migraines. The viscera within the body connects organs to organs, muscles, tendons and all fascia and is, therefore, excellent for shoulder, neck, back, pelvic pain and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Visceral manipulation releases scar tissue in the innermost layers of the body, improving function, circulation, energy and mobility. It is recommended for any post surgery condition, in addition to stomach problems including Irritable Bowel Syndrome, constipation, Hiatal Hernia, and Acid Reflux. Working with the viscera has proven very successful treating acute breathing problems, sinuses, and conditions related to the lungs.Visceral manipulation is an effective treatment for a wide range of both acute and chronic disorders and physical ailments and issues.
These include, but are not limited to:
- whiplash
- sports injuries
- acid reflux
- bladder incontinence
- effects of menopause
- headaches and migraines
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- sciatica
How can Visceral Manipulation help you?
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is an effective method for finding and solving problems within the body. Use of this technique can:
improve the functioning of internal organs
reduce the effects of negative stress
increase mobility within the musculoskeletal system
influence metabolism
What is a Visceral Manipulation session like?
VM is typically a very gentle technique that uses soft force precisely to manipulate the body deeply, but our Practitioner incorporates use of human energy; which she believes broadens the spectrum of impact. Visceral Manipulation is a technique that seeks to assist the forces already at work within your body, so there is no risk of any further disorganization or injury when performed by a trained therapist.
If you are living with a disorder, condition or issue, I encourage you to come and try Visceral Manipulation (VM) today and experience First Hand how a gentle touch can have a great affect.

Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic massage is a comprehensive rehabilitative approach that uses massage and other soft-tissue treatment techniques to address orthopedic disorders. Our Practitioners at First Hand Healing provide a systematic and effective approach to treating pain and injuries.Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) is a gentle hands-on technique used to detect the rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow throughout the body. During LDM, the Practitioner uses slow, gentle pressure with soft pumping (wave-like) movements. This gentle action encourages the lymph to flow in the direction of the lymph nodes, where the body filters the lymph fluid and then returns it to the blood. LDT can reduce blockages in the lymphatic system to promote a healthier body.Stress, fatigue, lack of physical activity, infection and aging can cause the lymph circulation to stagnate. When this occurs, fluids, proteins, cells and toxins accumulate and cellular functioning is compromised. Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is an original technique developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, DO, of France. Recent scientific discoveries about the physiology of the lymphatic system have verified that this technique offers the precise rhythm and pressure necessary to activate optimal lymphatic flow.
Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Improving the circulation of the lymph through LDM offers the following benefits:
- Helps fluid drain from cells;
- Improves the production and distribution of antibodies and lymphocytes, thereby boosting the immune system;
- Stimulates the lymphatic system's filtering process, which helps remove toxins and bacteria from the body.
- Helps calm and slow the sympathetic nervous system, which promotes activity;
- Stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is not for everyone, including those with the following conditions:
- Acute infections or fever
- Serious circulatory or major cardiac problems
- Hemorrhage
- Acute anuresis (absence of urination)
- Active cancer
